Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion

Most of you will probably unable to pick a favourite pair of socks let alone music. Music is so varied and dependent upon my mood that I struggle still to this day to pick a favourite artist, album or track but the one that evokes the most memories is done by one of my FAVOURITE bands who opened my eyes during my early teenage years and exposed me to the world of music and they are Fight Like Apes. Their synthesised sound with their prerecorded news snippets (reminiscent of public service broadcasting), poppy vocals and screams that would tear your ears apart is unique, their obscure and frankly sexual lyrics deliver you a message of what their sound and their music is all about.
Fight like Apes are an Irish band fronted by may Kay with Jamie Fox on keyboard and back up vocals, Conor Gary on bass and Lee Boylan on drums. Combined they have formed one of my favourite bands and have provided me with a completely unforgettable live experience, two insane albums and countless memories. Their first album Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion is one of heartbreak and synth, the bass intro to Jake Summers gives me shivers no matter how many times I listen to it and the somewhat sombre end note of snore bore whore is a great end to a perfect legacy which this album is. Their second album still delivered their punky in your face sound, titled ‘The body of Christ and the Legs of Tina Turner’ it already gave you an impression of too much acid. With an increased emphasis on vocals and lyrics this album fully delivers and pays homage to their sound.

In my humble opinion Fight Like Apes are THE most underrated band out there at the moment, with only two studio albums they have managed to capture my heart and I ask of you to see if they can do the same to you. so go and head over to Spotify or illegally download their music or buy their albums, just give them a listen.
