8/10
We've heard hardly anything from electronic band Metronomy since early 2011, when their album 'The English Riviera' was released. NME occasionally hinted at an upcoming album, but nothing more was revealed until last week, when 'I'm Aquarius' was posted to the band's soundcloud. A more minimalistic, dance orientated track (compared to earlier songs such as 'Everything Goes My Way' and 'The Look'), but still obviously Metronomy, it reflects artists such as The xx and Ricky Eat Acid - relaxed dance-pop. Beautifully simple, with synthesisers ringing in the background, this is a masterpiece; Mount's careless vocals intertwined with slow, delicate electro-beats creates a track that is nothing short of lush. The only thing that scores it down is the lack of other band members - what happened to Olugbenga's fizzing bass lines? Apart from this, 'I'm Aquarius' definitely exceeded my expectations, and I wait with nervous anticipation for the album to be released.I'm Aquarius is the first single from Love Letters, released in March 2014
